Cccold...

Two weeks ago I got the full Chicago experience, a ride on the El (Chicago's elevated train), deep dish Giordano's pizza, and a walk through some sklepy in Jackowo (stores in Polish-town). To complete the experience, I got to feel the Chicago wind coming off of Lake Michigan, truly authentic. Luckily, Keith, the voice of experience, talked me into bringing my winter coat with me at the last minute. I would have been a Popsicle otherwise!

Here's a few pictures from the excursion. We got to catch a Cubs game at Wrigley Field.

Two of Keith's old companion's and their wives came on the trip too (Steve and Sharalee Nabrotzky and Brennan and Kasia Snow). Here's Steve showing off the foul ball that he caught at the game. We'll post video of the amazing catch later.

I took some pictures of a few of my favorite pieces at the Art Institute. A few days after we got back from Chicago, the book I've been reading actually talked about these bird boxes... I thought that was cool.

One of my all time favorites:

One of the highlights of the trip was meeting some of the Polish families I hear so much about. The "Skis" were one of the two big families in the Polish branch Keith worked in for the two years he was on his mission. The other family recently moved to the suburbs. The Skis fed us really tasty authentic Polish food.

This is the Skinders. He was the branch president when Keith was on his mission. They are so nice. It was really great to meet a couple of these families.

And finally, here is Keith and his companions at their old mission apartment.

silver lining

Conveniently Keith scheduled a trip to UT to "see my family" the same weekend as the BYU vs. FSU game. Strange coincidence, right? We found out that we need to stop scheduling vacations around sporting events, because when your team loses it's almost impossible to not have it ruin the rest of your weekend. For those of you who know Keith, know that a BYU loss is especially hard on him.

My friend Jenny, whose husband is an equally die-hard BYU football fan, jokes the Thursday or Friday before a game that she hopes BYU wins on Saturday so that her family can have a "happy weekend." For those of you who saw the game know that it was a complete blowout. Honestly it was a little depressing, but in spite of the loss it was fun to see my family and we even got to see Lindsay perform at the game. By half time I decided to just watch the cougarettes instead, they ended up being the best part of the game!

Kyle and Emily found a really great price on flights to UT the same weekend so they were there for the game too. Emily even made a really cute BYU outfit for Hadley. Emily has a picture of it on her site, she's so talented!

My cute BYU family...

Fortunately it worked out for us to see Michelle perform at BYU's World of Dance. I'm so proud of my little sis. She made the top ballet team at BYU this year and she did a great job in her dances. Unfortunately they don't let you take photographs during the performance so I just got to take a couple pictures of her afterwords, stage makeup, fake eyelashes and all!
Being a BYU fan right now is looking a lot like being a Cubs fan. There's always next year. Can someone get rid of that BYU billy goat curse?

nicole's wedding

Keith and I have been on the wedding circuit this summer. First Krista and Kenny in Oregon (see posts below) and then Nicole and Chad in Utah. We even got to go to Krista's open house in Utah and our niece, Hadley's baby blessing because it was a few days before Nicole's wedding so we were in town. It's so fun to get to vacation and see family for such happy occasions.

It's so fun to see my little brother as a dad.

I love how Hadley's all cuddled up, she looks so comfy.
Nicole was such a beautiful bride. As you can tell she couldn't stop smiling that day. She and Chad were married in the SLC temple. It was cool that they let me go in with my mom to help Nicole get ready after the ceremony. I thought they only let mom's do that.

In spite of poking fun at Chad for being a Utah fan, we're really excited that Nicole married such a great guy. They really are perfect for each other.
Nicole decided that she wanted lemons and limes on her cake, we were a little worried about what might happen to the frosting if we used real fruit, but it actually turned out really great.

fun photos

My cousin Shaun married a really talented photographer. She took the pictures at my sister Krista's wedding. She also took my brother David's senior pictures. Below are two of my favorites. You can see more at her website.

sad story

So the title of this post was going to be "A few more pictures from Oregon" but it turns out that the same night I was working on this post (luckly I had already saved it) my computer completely crashed and now this is what is left of the 1,000+ pictures I took on our vacation, sad huh?
I'm still trying to get the hang of my camera, even though it's been almost a year since I got it. It was so much fun having cute little nieces around to take pictures of. Here are a few of my faves.
I was really surprised that Ava and Macy liked putting on the goggles. It was so fun watching them try to figure out how they worked.
Jenn & Sally, I'm so sorry I didn't get the pictures to you before the crash.

one down, one to go

Last week Keith and I got to go to Medford (Oregon) to see his sister Krista get married. She looked beautiful in her wedding dress and as her cousin Shaun said she could have been on the cover of any bridal magazine. Shaun's wife Janelle took some really great pictures of Krista up at Crater Lake. She has some of the pictures on her blog Snap Goes the Weasel. Here's a picture of her getting a really great shot of Krista's shoes.

When I think of Oregon I think of cool rainy weather. This weekend was a little different, the high in Medford the day of the wedding was a smoldering 109. It was still fun and I even got to take some pictures of our three cute nieces.

Here's Jenn's oldest Ava at the temple.

Here's a picture Sofie holding Jenn's youngest Sadie. Sofie traveled all the way from Sweden to come to Krista's wedding. Sofie's grandma and Keith's grandma were best friends growing up in Sweden. Keith and Krista have stayed with Sofie's family on separate trips to Europe, so it was fun to make connections with her again. We had a great time hanging out with her and she was nice enough to answer all our crazy questions about Sweden. We were all very impressed by her English skills, but we did teach her a few new words like "muffin top," and in return she gave us a couple of new sayings including, "sneaky fat" "looking nice" and "lagom" (this one was actually Swedish).

While we were out we were lucky enough to catch Keith's friend David Salsa in a show at the Oregon Shakespearean Festival. It's very prestigious to get into the acting company there, so we were really proud of him when we found out he made it. He was in three plays and we wished we could have seen all of them, but we felt lucky to catch one of them while we were out, he did a great job.

Here's a picture of David (back) in "Much Ado about Nothing".
