Grr, 'Pa & Shell Come to Visit (Part 3)

Although the GPS led us astray in downtown Salzburg, I couldn't have been more thankful for it as we tried to find our way to a castle we planned to see in Germany. One of my goals for this blog is to provide some European vacation planning advice. On the "what not to do" part of this advice includes planning a three hour drive from Salzburg to Germany in the snow on really narrow icy roads. What was I thinking, right? Well, I had my heart set on seeing the Neuschwanstein Castle (the one that the Disney Cinderlla castle is patterned after). I wouldn't plan it the same way again, but we have some crazy memories to now look back on and some cool pictures of the snowy German country side. That said, I would highly recommend seeing this castle, but the 30 minute hike to the castle would be much more enjoyable in the spring, summer or fall.

It was freezing cold, but all of us managed to pull out a smile for the picture.

No regrets from my perspective. If you are in Austria in winter, then that is the best time to see the castle! We had an excellent driver, traveled safely, saw beautiful country, visited a classic, well-known castle--it was all good! The ONLY thing you could possibly have planned any better would have been to pack your snow boots! But hey, tennis shoes dry out eventually. ;)
What a fantastic picture and memory in front of Neuschwanstein Castle with the orange front of the castle showing up beautifully in a picturesque winter setting and background!
