The Big One!

We've heard it a million times, but it's true, "it's hard to believe our little baby is already a year old!"

Now that Ezra's crawling he's much more independent. He now climbs into/onto/around things, sticks his fingers into small holes, eats anything on the ground, etc. etc. so Keith and I are having little heart attacks nearly every day. Every once in a while we look at each other and ask, "do all first parents worry that their baby's facing serious injury or even impending death around every corner?" Hence, not only are we celebrating Ezra's birthday because he's one, but we're also celebrating that he's survived two paranoid parents for a whole year.

We had a little birthday party, just us and Ezra. I was stressing a bit about his cake. I can acknowledge my talents, but cooking and baking are not some of them. However I was pleased that Ezra's very simple cake turned out. There are not cake decor shops here in Vienna so I was pleased to find a little bakery where they sold plastic squeeze bottles that could double as a device to pipe frosting.

We utilized our 72-hour kit for the first time. Turns out that waterproof matches don't light very well. We ended up using the broiler in our oven to light them. Glad we found this out before there was a real emergency.

What a cutie! Happy birthday Ezra! And I think you guys are cute that you worry so much. I'm more of a let them eat it and see what happens kind of parent, but that's probably why my kids are always getting hurt/sick/lost etc.

Oh, and a plastic baggie with the tip cut off works great for piping frosting also.

Haha. I think it's sweet how much you worry. Most parents probably do. I'm with Sally. I just go with it. We've had a few minor injuries but nothing to write home about so I figure kids are tough. They are meant to survive.
I think Ezzie is getting cuter every day. Thanks for posting pictures. It looks like he enjoyed the party!

What a fun birthday! Looks like mom and dad had fun too. I'm glad that you are very concerned parents. But, it is amazing how resiliant kids are! :)
